When you are planning for Mexican food or specially when you are looking for new Taco recipes then here is something you need to try for sure- very refreshing,flavorful and easy Shredded Chicken Taco,wrapped in a soft flour tortilla and served with homemade cabbage and carrot slaw,topped with cilantro lime cream sauce.

The slaw is homemade and I have used this slaw recipe before in my previous Taco recipe of Bang Bang Shrimp Taco.

How to Shred the Chicken:
  • I usually use the very basic method of boiling the chicken pieces,whether breast/thigh with sufficient water with little salt added to it.Remove the scum and keep aside the broth.
  • With a pair of knife and fork I shred,sometimes handheld mixer works great to perfectly shred the chicken.
  • You can use any kind of leftover grilled chicken or rotisserie chicken to shred.
  • Using hand mixer /stand mixer and using paddle attachment shred the chicken if you want very finely shredded chicken.
  • If you want little larger pieces of chicken then shred the chicken with hands or using fork and knife.

How to make Shredded Chicken / Pulled Chicken Taco with Cilantro Lime sauce:
  • I have boiled Chicken breast with little salt.Once the chicken is cooked,strain the stock and reserve for use in your food if you need or discard it.
  • Shred the chicken with fork or make chunks by hands.If you want very smooth shredded chicken then use hand held mixer/stand mixer with paddle attachment.
  • In a pan,add oil,to that add tomatoes or paste,onion,garlic and stir fry till soft,add spices and mix further.
  • Finally add the chicken,mix well,cook for some time and once all the mix is dry,keep aside.

Steps to make Shredded Chicken for Taco
  • Arrange the soft flour tortilla,add the slaw,add chicken mix,add chopped cilantro and spring onion,add the cilantro lime sauce.

Shredded Chicken Taco
Very delicious and easy fix for Taco Tuesday- these Shredded Chicken Taco are perfect for Taco cravings,with amazing cabbage,carrot slaw and Cilantro lime cream sauce

Ingredients

  • For Shredded Chicken:
  • 1 Cup Cooked/Shredded,Chicken Breast/Thigh Meat
  • 2 Tbsp Oil
  • 1 Large Tomato,chopped/pureed/ OR 2 Tbsp Tomato paste
  • 1 Red Sweet Onion,Chopped
  • 3 Garlic,cloves,chopped/minced
  • As per need Salt
  • 2 tsp Cayenne Red Pepper Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper, ground
  • 1 tsp Cumin, ground
  • 1 tsp Coriander,ground
  • 1/2 tsp Smoked Paprika
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic,powder
  • For Cilantro Lime Cream Sauce:
  • 1/3 Cup Cilantro
  • 2 tsp Lime Juice
  • As per need Salt
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 2 Tbsp Yogurt
  • 2 Tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 1/4 Cup Cream
  • 1 Tbsp Frank's RedHot Original Hot Sauce
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper,ground
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • For Slaw:Check recipe of Bang Bang Shrimp Taco
  • 6 Inch ,Soft Flour 6 Tortilla / White Corn Tortillas
  • For Garnish:
  • Chopped Cilantro,Spring Onion,Lemon Wedges

Instructions





  1. For Shredded Chicken: In a pan,add oil,when its hot,add the tomato/paste,onion,garlic and fry till they are soft.
    Add the spices mentioned and fry further.
    Add the chicken and mix well.
    Make sure its dry mixture and switch off the flame and keep aside.
  2. For Cilantro Lime Cream Sauce: In a mixer/grinder,add the ingredients mentioned and grind/pulse till smooth sauce.
    If you need more liquid then add either little more cream or milk.
  3. For Slaw:Please Check Bang Bang Shrimp Taco.
    To arrange,place the tortilla/taco shell,place slaw,chicken,chopped cilantro and spring onion,cilantro cream sauce.
    Squeeze lime juice and serve.
Yield: 6 Servings
Prep Time: 00:25:00 mins.
Cook time: 00:10:00 mins.
