This egg roll soup is easy and it takes 30minutes or less to fix a delicious and healthy meal when you crave your favorite Chinese restaurant egg rolls!

This soup is very comforting, filling, and cozy - perfect for the cold weather. Plus this is a one-pot meal that is perfect for chilly nights, definitely going to go for seconds.

What is egg roll soup?

Egg roll soup is basically your favorite takeout-style egg roll ingredients in a delicious broth.

You can add whichever protein you like, as I have used ground chicken, so you can add ground pork or ground turkey too.

I must say that this egg roll soup is one of my favorite comforting bowls of soup apart from chicken noodle soup.

If you are loving egg rolls then this soup will one of your favorites. Plus it's a one-pot dish so easy to fix too, and also the ingredients are almost similar to that of egg rolls.

Ingredients you will need to make this egg roll soup recipe:

  • Minced Chicken (can choose any other ground meat of your choice)
  • Sesame Oil / Vegetable Oil
  • Onion / Carrot / Garlic/ Ginger / Green Cabbage (add vegetables as per your preference)
  • Chicken Broth (use low sodium chicken broth)
  • Sauce ( Sriracha, Sugar, Soy Sauce, Tomato Ketchup)
  • Salt & Pepper
  • Green Onion / Sesame Seeds

How to make egg roll soup?

Step1:  Cook Chicken. In a stockpot / dutch oven, add vegetable oil. When the oil is hot, add chicken to the pot and cook till the chicken is done. Keep it aside.

Step2:  Cook vegetables. In the pot, add sesame oil. When the oil is hot, add ginger, garlic, onion, carrot one by one, saute till the vegetables are soft.

Step3:  Add Stock and Sauces. Add stock to the pot, salt, pepper, soy sauces, sriracha, tomato ketchup, sugar, cabbage, and chicken, one by one, and simmer for 15mins.

Step4:  Serve the soup garnished with spring onion and sesame seeds.

How to store leftover soup?

You can store the leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Can you freeze this soup?

This soup is easy to make ahead of time and freezes well! Just thaw the soup as individual servings, this will make it easier to take out the quantity that you will need.

Thaw soup in the refrigerator section before heating it. Once thawed heat it thoroughly before serving. This will freeze well for 1 to 2 months.

Can you make this egg roll soup vegetarian?

Yes! You can skip the meat part of this and add more vegetables such as mushrooms, bell peppers for more flavors.

How long does egg roll soup last?

If you have refrigerated the soup then it will be good for 3days. You have to consume it in 3 days.

If you are freezing the soup then it will last well for 1 to 2 months.

What to serve with egg roll soup?

You can serve some delicious takeout-style shrimp fried rice, chicken fried rice, chicken lo mein, vegetable lo mein, or even spicy Thai noodles with this soup.

Tips to make this easy egg roll soup bowl:

  • This soup tastes best when served hot.
  • Sauces can be adjusted as per your preference. Adding sriracha for a little spice will elevate the flavor plus you can add white vinegar too.
  • Adding protein is your choice. You can make this soup vegetarian or add ground pork, turkey, chicken as per your choice.
  • If you like a slightly thicker soup then add 1 Tbsp cornstarch mixed with 1 Tbsp water to the soup and bring it to boil till the soup thickens. 
  • Adding more cornstarch will keep making the soup thicker.
  • You can add some fried noodles to this soup as a topping. But if you are planning to freeze the soup then skip adding the fried noodles to the soup.
