Quick and delicious restaurant-style dinner with this creamy mushroom pasta! This pasta recipe is a family favorite now.


I can fix dinner in under 30mins or less with this recipe along with many more of my recipes of quick dinner fix which I had shared before. 

The best part of this recipe is that it's very quick plus the earthy mushroom flavor really makes the dish outstanding. This white pasta is actually very customizable, such as adding shrimp, chicken, eggs long with mushrooms plus adding more veggies of your choice too.

Creamy Mushroom Pasta

The mushroom pasta recipe is very easy to put together to get quick and amazing restaurant-style food in under no time.


What goes in this simple creamy mushroom pasta recipe?

  • Mushroom: Use white button, shitake or cremini
  • Cream: Heavy whipping cream
  • Vegetable Broth
  • Parmesan: Fresh grated cheese
  • Seasoning: Italian seasoning, parsley dried, pepper powder, salt,lemon juice.
  • Butter and Oil
  • Pasta: Linguine or any other of your choice

How do you make mushroom pasta from scratch?

Step1:   Cook the pasta till al dente as per package instructions. Further, toss the pasta in some olive oil to avoid pasta sticking together ,and keep aside.


Step2:   In a pan, add oil and when it's warm, add garlic, chopped onion and saute till the onion is soft.

Next, add mushroom sliced and saute till the mushroom is brown. Keep this aside on the plate.


Step3:   In the same pan, add butter, then add flour to the pan and saute till the raw smell of flour is gone.

Then add stock to the pan, add Italian seasoning, parsley, salt, pepper powder, lemon juice and mix till smooth, to make the sauce perfect.

Bring down the heat, add cream and parmesan and keep stirring to make the sauce smooth. Let the sauce simmer till the cheese is melted ,and sauce is smooth.


Step4:   Add pasta to the pan and toss well. Adjust salt, pepper powder , grated parmesan ,and chopped parsley.

How do you make creamy mushroom sauce from scratch?

To make the creamy sauce for the mushroom pasta recipe, just start by adding butter to the pan, then add flour to the pan and saute till the raw smell of flour is gone.

Then add stock to the pan, add italian seasoning, parsley, salt, pepper powder, lemon juice and mix till smooth, to make the sauce perfect.

What kind of cream is used for pasta?

Heavy whipping cream is what you have to use to make delicious creamy pasta sauce ina ddition to parmesan.


How do you thicken mushroom pasta?

To thicken the pasta, you mostly do not need to worry much as normally pasta drinks the sauce.

But in case you ended making lot of sauce to pasta ratio in the dish then , add some extra heavy cream and simmer for a while. Also, add cornstarch or flour slurry to the sauce and simmer till the sauce is smooth and thick.


Why did the sauce split? How can I fix this?


Normally the sauce which involves cream or milk splits when either of the ingredients are not at room temperature.

Always make sure when making a sauce with cream or milk, then the cream and milk should be at room temperature. If you add chilled or cold milk or cream to the saucepan and start cooking then there are more chances that the sauce will split.

Also after adding milk or cream to sauce always simmer the sauce and do not bring it boil.

If the sauce is split then to quick fix it bring the heat to sim/lowest heat, add some stock/broth and mix vigorously till the sauce is smooth. Further you can add some extra cheese to get that smoothness.

  • To make the pasta saucier you can add a little more broth or add milk to add that extra bath of sauce to the pasta.
  • Use protein in this dish of your choice. Add chicken, salmon, eggs, shrimp as per your preference.
  • Adding vegetables of your choice can be amazing too. Add broccoli, spinach, peas, bell peppers to this pasta to make it more interesting.
  • Cook the pasta till al dente. Do not overcook the pasta or keep it undercooked too.
  • You can replace the pasta with pasta of your choice in this recipe.
  • You can make the recipe extra delicious by adding butter along with oil when sauteing the mushrooms and vegetables.
  • Mushrooms can be used as per the availability. I have used white mushrooms, you can go for fresh shitake, cremini ,or swiss brown.
