This easy pecan pie bars recipe is my regular as they are easiest to put together and refrigerate well,freeze well too and make them in advance before serving a crowd.

- Make the shortbread crust
- Prepare the pecan pie topping
- Bake the pecan pie bars and cut them on cooling
In detail the steps of how to make the best pecan pie bars:
Step1: In a bowl add sugar,flour,salt,butter and vanilla,mix well and with hand or spatula mix well till it resembles crumbs / crumbly texture.
You should be able to hold it together to form a dough ball yet its dry.
Refer the pictures below to get the better idea about this step.
Step2: Preheat the oven at 350F / 180C .
Line a 8x8 baking pan with parchment paper with extra parchment paper hanging out of the pan sides ,this is done to ease lifting out the pie out of the pan to cut it into bars.
Step3: In the baking pan,pour the dough mix and press it well to cover all the corners of the pan to form the shortbread crust.
Bake the crust till sides are slightly brown for 15 to 20 mins.
Step4: To prepare topping,in a pan add butter,corn syrup,brown sugar,maple syrup as shown in picture.
Let it come to a boil and boil for 3 to 4 mins.
Step5: Reduce heat and add vanilla,cream and mix well.
Step6: Add a pinch of salt and chopped pecans and mix well.
Step7: Pour this in the baking pan with shortbread crust already baked.
Spread evenly to cover every corner of the pan.
Bake for 20 to 25 mins till top is caramelized and bubbly and almost set.
Step8: Let it cool off completely before you cut the pie bars.
Store in bags in refrigerator or freeze them.
