What type of caramels can I use?

Use soft chewy individually wrapped caramels, not the hard ones.

What chocolate to use to cover homemade turtles?

The best chocolate to use in this recipe is the milk chocolate bar. You can go for a white or dark chocolate bar too.

Do not use chocolate chips as they harden up instead of melting when heated in the microwave.

How to store homemade chocolate turtles?

These chocolate turtles will last up to 3 weeks when chocolate turtles are stored in an airtight container.

If you want to freeze then arrange them with pieces of parchment or butter paper between them so that they do not stick together and freeze them for up to 2 months.

Tips to make the best turtles chocolate recipe:

  • Toasting pecans in the oven or on the stovetop will make the pecans very crisp and flavorful.
  • Use chocolate bars instead of chocolate chips. Chocolate bars melt well.
  • Adding coconut oil to chocolate bars will make the chocolate smooth and glossy.
  • Use individually wrapped soft caramels. Do not overcook the caramels as they will burn.
  • Adding milk or cream while melting caramels will make the caramels melt well and be smooth.
  • Instead of pecans, you can also use cashews and almonds to make the turtles.
  • You can use a mix of white, milk, and dark chocolate bars to make this recipe.
  • If you keep the turtles over the counter for caramel or chocolate to get firm then it will take a lot of time. You can also refrigerate the turtles for 15mins to make them firm quickly.
