These super easy and cheesy shrimp cakes are ready under 30 mins from prep time till landing the shrimp fritters on your plate,all under just few mins.
Lemon aioli is very easy to fix too.Just mix all the ingredients and the amazing sauce to go with the shrimp patties is ready.
Shrimp Cakes
Shrimp patties ingredients:
- Shrimp: Go for the fresh wild caught shrimp instead of farm raised shrimp. If you are getting cleaned shrimp from stores then buy raw and cleaned shrimp but not precooked as when you will cook the shrimp again to make cakes the final shrimp will turn rubbery.
- Cheese: I have used mozzarella shredded in this recipe but as per you choice and liking you can opt for other cheese types too.
- Egg + Flour + Breadcrumbs: These are used to bind the shrimp fritters together,as the shrimp patties should hold as a ball and not fall out.
- Spices: Spices used apart from black pepper powder is old bay seasoning and cayenne pepper. You can even try adding cumin powder if you like.
- Red Onion + Spring Onion Greens: This was added to give that extra flavor to the shrimp patty. You can also add bell peppers.
How to make shrimp cakes?
Shrimp cakes are very easy to make,plus the batter/dough can be mixed ahead of time and further cooked later when you are ready to serve.
In a bowl you have to mix the chopped shrimp along with spices,egg,flour,cheese,bread crumbs,onion and spring onion greens.
Make the batter/dough for the shrimp patties,scoop out the batter sufficient for each patty and place on a heated skillet drizzled with oil and slightly spread the batter slightly to form patty.
Cook till one side of the patty is done and then flip over to cook on other side.
Pro Tips to make the shrimp cakes with lemon aioli:
- To get the shrimp cake batter/mix blended well,make sure that shrimp is chopped well.If the shrimp pieces are too big then the shrimp pieces will fall out of the cakes when frying.
- Adjust the spices as per preference. If you like extra spice then you can add some chopped green chilis too.
- Unless one side of cakes is cooked well do not turn them over or they will break.
- Cheese is optional if you want to skip out then slightly increase the flour and bread crumbs in the batter/dough mix.
- You can make ahead the shrimp patties batter and freeze,but then do not add breadcrumbs and flour to the batter/mix.Mix the breadcrumbs and flour before frying the cakes.
- You can make this mix and store in the freezer,thaw in refrigerator and make the patties.
- Shrimp cakes can stay in refrigerator for 3 to 4 days,then before serving heat them well on a skillet or in microwave.
- You can freeze shrimp cakes well. Arrange the shrimp cakes in a freezer safe bowl or container,lined with parchment paper between two cakes to avoid sticking.

How to prepare shrimp cakes?
Step1: In a mixing bowl add chopped shrimp,chopped onion,black pepper powder,salt,spring onion greens, egg, flour,cheese,lemon zest,mayonnaise,bread crumbs.(as shown in picture 1,2 3 ,4,5,6,7,8 and 9)
Step2: Mix the ingredients well to form the shrimp patty batter as shown in picture 10.
Step3: Scoop out the shrimp patty batter and place on hot skillet drizzled with oil. slightly spread it to form patty,cook till the shrimp fritter is cooked on one side and then flip over to cook the patty on other side, as shown in picture 11 and 12.
How to prepare the lemon aioli/shrimp cake sauce?
To make the delicious aioli just mix together mayonnaise, lemon zest,garlic crushed,green onion,red pepper flakes and salt(as per need).Mix well and keep aside.

- 1 & 1/4 Cup Shrimp,raw,cleaned,deveined,chopped
- 1/2 tsp Salt (adjust as per need)
- 1 Large Egg
- 1 Medium Red Onion,chopped

- 1/8 tsp Cayenne Pepper
- 1/4 tsp Black Pepper Powder
- 1/4 Cup Bread Crumbs
- 2 Sprigs Spring Onion/Scallion,greens,chopped

- 1/3 Cup Mayonnaise

- 2 Tbsp Cilantro,chopped
- 1/4 Cup + 2 Tbsp Flour
For Lemon Aioli:
- 1/2 Cup Mayonnaise

Instructions:
