Microwave Dhokla

A new interesting post for all snack lovers...Instant Microwave Dhokla!

Dhokla is one of my loved snacks to satisfy the 4 O'Clock hunger. This time of the day when all I need is a good hot cup of tea with something to munch....not too heavy snack but something light yet filling.
I make a lot of tea time snacks to satisfy my cravings of something yummy and yet hassle free. This is easiest and quickest of all!
Yes...this time I made this dhokla in Microwave and voila!....it's ready in no time.

I had put a recipe of Dhokla earlier too...that's the regular preparation one...this one is quick.
Even if guests arrive and you do not have much snacks to offer then this is something you can make in no time they will wonder what magic did u do in there!

 Try this recipe and enjoy with hot cuppa tea!

Microwave Dhokla
Ingredients
  • 1 Cup Gram Flour
  • 2 Tablespoons Rava Sooji / Fine / Semolina
  • 3 Tablespoons Yogurt
  • as per taste Salt
  • 3 Teaspoons Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon,heaped Ginger-Green Chili Paste
  • 1 Teaspoon Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Eno Fruit Salt
  • Water to make batter
  • For Tampering:
  • 2 Tablespoons Oil
  • 1 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 1 Teaspoon Hing /Asafoetida
  • 2 Green Chili ,Slit
  • 2 Sprigs Coriander Leaves / Cilantro,finely chopped
  • 2 Tablespoon Grated Coconut
  • 1/4th Cup + 2 Tablespoons Water for tadka
  • Salt as per need
  • 1 Teaspoon Sugar
Instructions
First,in a mixing bowl,add all the ingredients except the fruit salt and water.
Mix well.
Now slowly add water in batches to make a smooth dough.
Remember that the consistency of dough should be that of Idli batter.
Now let this batter sit for 5 minutes.
Then add the fruit salt to it.
Mix well.
The mixture will start frothing.
Now take a microwave safe bowl.
Apply oil to all sides of the bowl.
Pour the entire mixture in the bowl.
Cover with a tissue paper.
Microwave it for 2 & 1/2 Minutes.
Take the bowl out.
Uncover the bowl.
Be careful the contents of the bowl is very hot at this point.
Now check if the dhokla is done if the knife comes out clean.
Or you can microwave it for another 30 seconds.
In a pan,add oil.
When its hot,add all ingredients mentioned for tampering,except grated coconut.
When it splutters add water,salt and sugar.
Let it boil for a minute or less and switch off the gas.
Now pour this mixture over the dhokla,sprinkle the chopped coriander leaves and grated coconut.
Let the tadka water sink in well.
Then when cooled,cut the dhokla into desired shape and serve with hot tea!

Tips:

  • Try microwaving the dhokla mix for first 2 and 1/2 minutes and if its not done then microwave it for another half minute.
  • This timing is enough for dhokla to be perfectly cooked.If still not done then microwave it for another minute.
  • If you like the dhokla little more sweet and spicy,then increase the ginger-green chili paste and add another 1/2 teaspoon more sugar.
