A new post for all chicken lovers...this time it is Chicken Sukka!

Sharing sukka chicken recipe was on list for  long time...although I am making this since a long time now.
The first time ever I had tasted this sukka, was in an Udupi restaurant, and this was by far the best! That taste still lingers on my lips.
Sukka chicken is made in a variety of ways.Based on the location with which its name is associated the style , spices and taste varies.
I have tried so many different varieties of chicken sukka till now....to name a few kolhapuri,malwani and more!

I am sharing this recipe of sukka,which is made by me in a way to recreate the same taste that I fell in love for!.

Chicken Sukka
Ingredients
  • 500 Grams Chicken, cut in small pieces,skinless
  • For Marination:
  • 1 & 1/2 Tablespoon Red Chili Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 Tablespoon Lime Juice
  • Salt as per need
  • For Masala:
  • 1 Tablespoon Ghee / Clarified Butter
  • 1 Medium Onion,sliced
  • 1 Small Tomato,sliced
  • 6 Byadgi Chilis
  • 1 & 1/2 Tablespoons Coriander Seeds
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Methi Seeds / Fenugreek
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Carom Seeds
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 6 Cloves Garlic
  • 1" Long piece Ginger
  • For Tadka:
  • 1 Tablespoon Ghee / Clarified Butter
  • 2 Sprigs Curry Leaves
  • 2 Tablespoons Garlic,minced
  • 1 Medium Onion,chopped
  • 1 Medium Tomato,chopped
  • Additional:
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • 1/2 Cup Desiccated / Fresh Coconut
  • Salt as per need
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Sugar
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Garam Masala Powder
  • 1 Tablespoon Ghee / Clarified Butter
Instructions
Firstly,wash the chicken thoroughly.
Marinate it with all the ingredients mentioned under "For Marination".
Next,in a pan,add ghee.
When its hot,add all the spices mentioned under "For Masala".
Fry it on medium flame till brown.
Let it cool down and grind to a smooth paste with very less water.
In the same pan,add ghee.
When its hot,add desiccated coconut or fresh grated coconut.
Roast it on low flame it leaves nice aroma and slightly brown.
Keep it aside.
In the same pan,add ghee.
When hot,add all items mentioned under "For Tadka".
When it is slightly brown,add marinated chicken.
Mix well.
Cook it covered for 2 minutes.
Add ground paste.
Mix well and cook further adding water.
When chicken is almost done and water content is dried,add salt,sugar,coconut browned and garam masala powder.
Mix well.
Cook for another couple of minutes.
Serve hot with rice or roti!

Tips:

  • Try using desiccated coconut instead of fresh for this recipe. If you do not find desiccated then you can use fresh grated coconut.
  • You can use any brand garam masala powder or any other fragrant masala powder you have.
  • Adjust the spice level as per your tolerance,
