Better than store-bought,these cherry turnovers{with puff pastry} are so good that you wont believe these are homemade.
The Cherry pie filling can be homemade or store-bought too.In this recipe I have made the cheery jam at home as cherry is in stores but otherwise you can always use canned one.
If you are using store bought pie filling then use Cherry Pie Filling & Topping

You can use the pie crust or use puff pastry too. This recipe is with puff pastry,you can use Pillsbury Frozen Puff Pastry
or also pepperidge farm puff pastry.

Cherry Turnovers{with puff pastry}
These cherry turnovers are very easy to make and delicious cherry pie filling makes it very good,plus the vanilla glaze addition makes this just from bakery.
Cherry Turnovers Recipe Ingredients:
- Puff Pastry Squares.I have used puff pastry for the turnovers but you can use pie crust to see how it works for you.
- Cherry Pie Filling. Use store bought canned one or use homemade.I have shared procedure to make homemade one below.
- Vanilla Glaze: This is optional.You can instead use some melted butter and cinnamon ground,mix and spread too.This will make the turnovers awesome.For the glaze ingredients are sugar,milk,lemon juice and vanilla.


Cherry Pie Filling Recipe
Here I am sharing steps to make homemade cherry pie filling:
Step1: Collect all the stemmed and pitted cherries in a pan.
You can use Cherry and Olive Pitter
too.This makes the work very easy.

Step2: In the pan add lemon juice,sugar,cinnamon ground and butter.Start cooking it.
The cherries will start leaving juices and the entire mixture will start to cook.
Cook it till starts to get thickened.Alternatively mix little water with cornstarch and add to it.

Step3: Cook the mixture till it gets thicker.Switch off and let it cool. You can store this in refrigerator till you make the turnovers.
This can be made in advance,a day or two prior to making the turnovers too.

Cherry Turnover Recipe
Step1: Arrange the puff pastry squares,as shown in picture 1.
Step2: Place a spoonful of pie filling at the center. Apply the egg white on sides of the square,as shown in picture2.
Step3: Fold the pastry,and seal the edges with fork as shown in picture 3. Finally bake them.

Use the puff pastry cut into squares to get the perfect shape.
If you get the store bought puff pastry which is like dough, which you need to roll and cut then roll as per need.
Then first roll the dough vertically making it longer rectangle and then with a knife mark the sections to get exact square and cut accordingly.
How to fill cherry filling in turnovers?
Place a spoonful of cherry pie filling at the center of the puff pastry square.
Do not overfill the puff pastry,as it will overflow and you wont be able to close the puff pastry and it will overflow when baking.
How long to bake cherry turnovers?
To get perfect puff,bake the turnovers at 375f for 25 to 30 mins.
Tips to make cherry turnovers:
- For cherry pie filling to be very thick instead of liquid sauce,add a teaspoon of cornstarch to 1 teaspoon water and add this to the sauce mix to thicken it.
- Do not overfill the puff pastry square or it will overflow when you bake it.
- For the edges of the turnovers not to open up when baking them,apply egg white to the sides of the puff pastry square and then with fork seal the edges to close the pastry.
- You can optionally brush the top of turnovers with egg white to get some extra brownish glaze when baking.
- If you do not want the vanilla glaze then leave it out.its optional.You can even pour Nutella or any chocolate spread too.

Ingredients
- 6 Squares,Puff Pastry
- For cherry pie filling:
- 1 Cup Cherry,pitted,stemmed
- 1/3 Cup Granulated Sugar
- 1 tsp Lemon Juice
- 1 Tbsp Butter
- 1 tsp Cinnamon,ground
- Extra:
- Egg White,whisked
- For Vanilla Glaze:
- 1/2 Cup Powdered Sugar
- 1 Tbsp Milk
- 1/2 Tbsp Lemon Juice
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
Instructions
- To make Cherry pie filling:

With piping bag,pour the glaze over the turnovers.
