Korean Fried Chicken

Crispy Korean fried chicken is a very popular Korean street food, and nowadays, it is available almost everywhere in the world.

The crispiness in the fried chicken comes from double frying the chicken, further tossing the chicken in delicious sauce that makes this dish amazing.

What is gochujang?

Gochujang is a Korean fermented red chili paste (or sauce). Paste is better for a bolder flavour compared to sauce. You can use any brand available to you for this recipe.

How to make Korean Fried Chicken?

Step 1:  Marinate the chicken pieces with the ingredients in the recipe card. Keep this refrigerated till we prepare the sauce and coating for the chicken.

Step 2:  In a separate bowl, add the ingredients for the crispy coating for the chicken. Mix well and set aside.

Step 3:  In a cup, mix all the ingredients for the Korean fried chicken sauce. Set this aside.

Step 4:  Heat oil in a deep frying pan. While the oil is getting hot, dredge chicken pieces in the coating mix and slowly drop the pieces into the oil to fry. Repeat this until the entire chicken is fried.

Step 5:  While the chicken is frying, add the sauce mix in a pan and let the sauce simmer until it starts to thicken.
After a few seconds, switch off the heat.
Add all the fried chicken to the sauce and toss well to coat the chicken fully with sauce.

Step 6:  Garnish with sesame seeds and spring onion greens. Relish the chicken!

How to reheat Korean fried chicken?

To reheat this gochujang fried chicken, pour the leftover chicken into an oven-safe bowl and heat it at 180C/356F until the chicken is thoroughly heated.

Microwaving this Korean chicken will make it soggy and chewy, and you won't get that perfect, crispy chicken.

Storing Leftovers/Make Ahead:

To make ahead, you can prepare the sauce and refrigerate it for up to a day or two. Then, reheat the sauce before coating the chicken and serving.

To store leftovers you can only store fried chicken but not sauce-coated chicken as it will be soggy if left with sauce for some time.

Once the chicken is fried, allow it to cool, arrange the chicken pieces on a parchment paper, and layer them with parchment paper in a ziploc bag and refrigerate for up to a month.
