Flavorful Tandoori Fish /Tikka Fish is the perfect appetizer for any meal! Smoky delicious Fish Tikka is perfect for party!

A new and exciting post after a break..and it's something perfect again for the summer..it's Grilled Tandoori Fish / Fish Tikka .

Grilling season is here and we are all trying wonderful grilling recipes, summer cooler recipes along with lots of Ice-Creams.
I have shared a couple of ice-creams,summer drinks on the website, check those out and do give them a try.You will love them.
This recipe is different as its my all time favorite Tandoori aka Tikka Fish Recipe.
Before checking the recipe, have a look at the amazing drool-worthy picture.

Tandoori Fish Grilled Fish served with sliced onion and lemon

From my previous posts it must be very obvious that we love Fish and Chicken,so this time I tried Mackerel Tandoori aka Tikka. It was super easy and amazingly delicious.
I have already shared my recipe of Chicken Tandoori. Check that out too.
This recipe calls for very few ingredients, unlike most of Indian recipes where we need a big list of ingredients and still its lip-smacking and very easy.
Weekends are usually experimental days, where I try a variety of recipes which I have on my list. This time also I wanted to have Mackerels,as it is long since I had fresh Mackerels.
If you are in US,then you will get nice and fresh Indian Mackerels in Seafood City Supermarket or any other Chinese Fish stores too.
I had this recipe on my list for a long time and somehow I was procrastinating it as something used to come up every time I had plans to make them.
Finally this week I could relish the fresh and delicious Indian Mackerels, grilled and with amazing flavors.

We enjoyed having them with rice, but you can simply grill and have them like any other seafood/chicken starters. It does not make much of a difference.

Fish Tikka Recipe Grilled Mackerel served on a plate

I am introducing lots of recipes to my kids as first of all they are fussy eaters plus making them eat food is a big achievement in itself.
These days I make lot of recipes which are easy to make and would taste amazing for them too. This recipe was loved by my kids.
Few call Fish grilled or Tandoori as Fish Tikka too. One of my friends had a similar dish in one of the restaurants as Fish Tikka,as she wanted to try out new versions of Fish recipes.
If you do not wish to add Tamarind Pulp in recipe then optionally add yogurt whisked or Lemon Juice too.  I preferred adding  Tamarind pulp instead as I loved the taste of Tamarind in this recipe compared to yogurt or lemon.
Optionally adding Garam Masala powder would be nice too.
Make some random changes to spices in this recipe and see the variations in taste.

  • Clean and wash the Mackerel's.
  • Soak a lemon sized tamarind ball in 1 Tablespoon warm water for 5 mins, then squeeze the tamarind to take pulp.
  • Discard any tamarind seeds.

  • Mix well.
  • With a knife make slits on the fish.
  • Now stuff the masala nicely with your hands inside the fish skin,on both sides of fish.
  • Apply remaining masala on the fish.
  • Keep it aside for 10 mis to marinate well.
  • Grill the fish on a grilling plate or on a grilling rack in oven too.
  • I preferred this on Grill/Griddle.

    2. Tandoori fish looks delicious, I like that you added tamarind pulp instead of lemon juice. Fish goes well with tamarind. Mackerel is really fleshy fish goes well with grilling.

    16. Love tandoori fish with red snapper or morso fish. The smaller the fish the more flavor it has too. I had not tried yet to add tamarind, love the idea! It should give the tandoori dish a southern touch. :)
