Chinese Bhel


A new post after long break...this time it is Chinese Bhel!!

I happened to visit Goa while ago. As we were running short of fuel in our tummy's,we decided to hop-in to the first restaurant we find!
We landed in a fancy restaurant and tried lot of dishes there...to my surprise all dishes were disaster and I made sure that my husband realize how precious my cooked food is compared to what we paid for ...LOL!
There, one of the dishes I tried, was this Chinese Bhel,as I had heard a lot about this dish from my friends but had never tasted it. It goes without saying that the dish was failure too.

After some days I happened to visit a roadside small restaurant,where again I noticed this dish in their menu and dared to order it. This time is was bliss! Super hot and crispy noodles wrapped with crunchy vegetables cooked in spicy and tangy gravy....just loved it!

So this is my next effort to share a new recipe which I tried and was a sheer bliss to our taste buds!

Chinese Bhel
Ingredients
  • 1/2 Cup Cabbage,shredded
  • 1/4 Cup Red Bell Pepper,shredded
  • 1/4 Cup Yellow Bell Pepper,shredded
  • 2 Tablespoons Ginger,finely chopped
  • 2 Tablespoons Garlic,finely chopped
  • 1/4 Cup Tomato,sliced
  • 1/4 Cup Onion,sliced
  • 6 Sprigs Scallions,greens and whites separated,chopped
  • 2 Tablespoons Sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons Tomato Ketchup
  • 2 Tablespoons Schezuan Sauce
  • 1 Teaspoon Red Chilli Sauce
  • 1 Teaspoon Green Chilli Sauce
  • 1 Teaspoon Vinegar white
  • 1 Teaspoon Soy Sauce
  • Salt as per taste
  • 3/4 Cup Water
  • 1 Packet,I used Chings Veg Hakka Noodles Hakka Noodles
  • Oil as per need
  • 1 Teaspoon Maida
  • 1 Teaspoon Cornstarch
  • 1 Teaspoon Sesame Seeds
Instructions
Break the noodles on a plate.
In a pan,heat water with little oil and salt. When the water starts to boil,add noodles.
Cook the noodles till done.
Now switch off gas and drain water. Now run cold water over noodles.
Place the noodles in a bowl,add little oil,maida,cornstarch and mix well.
In a deep fry pan,add oil and heat it.
When its hot add noodles in batches and fry them till golden brown and crispy.
Drain them on an absorbent paper.
When cooled store them in airtight container.
In a pan add oil,when hot,add ginger and garlic.
Fry for a minute,add all veggies except few scallion greens. Reserve them for garnishing.
Add salt and fry for sometime on high flame.
Now,reduce the flame to medium and add sugar,all sauces and vinegar,add water and cook till it thickens.
Keep it aside.
Now to serve,in a bowl or plate,place the noodles and pour the vegetable sauce as per need,add scallion greens and sesame seeds, toss the noodles a bit in sauce.
Serve hot and enjoy!!

Tips:

  • Serve hot, immediately after mixing the noodles with sauce.
  • Do not mix the noodles and sauce,to serve at a later time as they will turn soggy.
  • Adjust spice level in your sauce as per tolerance.
